WHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN THIS SEMINAR

In this two day seminar, Pat Davidson, Ph.D, will zoom out a little farther on the design of most fitness programs. Typical training sessions in fitness environments involve warm-up, followed by light, fast, ballistic exercises (med ball throws, plyometrics, speed and agility), followed by heavy, fast, ballistic exercises (Olympic lifts), followed by heavy, slow, non-ballistic activities (squat, hinge, press, pull), followed by moderate load, moderate velocity, non-ballistic activities (assistance exercises, single leg and single arm exercises), followed by low load, low velocity, long duration activity (aerobic conditioning).

These previously mentioned training activities develop the primary fitness qualities that coaches and personal trainers target for overall physiological advancement of humans.

When examining all the activities previously listed, they primarily involve a static or dynamic presentation of three primary stances that people assume, bilateral symmetrical stance, staggered anterior-posterior stance (linear lunge), and staggered lateral stance (lateral lunge).

From these stances, these activities also tend to feature a dominant cardinal plane of movement (sagittal, frontal, transverse).

In this seminar, participants will be able to determine the primary stance and plane that activities ranging from warm-up to conditioning in a typical fitness session belong in. Examples include the idea that change of direction in a shuttle sprint is a staggered lateral stance, frontal plane, low load, ballistic activity, and a power clean is a bilateral symmetrical stance, heavy, fast, ballistic activity.

Once participants are familiar with categorizing these activities, they will learn what the sensorimotor competencies of each of these stances and planes involves, and how many of these sensorimotor competencies apply in an invariant way across different domains of fitness expression.

Finally, participants will be presented with an example program design that displays exactly how to weave all the stances, planes, and fitness qualities together for a new athlete/client that they would start working with.
